Joel Wood of Assured Life Advisers has done his fair number of challenges for charity over the years, including climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro for the Steve Prescott Foundation* in 2017.
In October 2023, Joel will be joining a team of enthusiastic trekkers climbing Toubkal, a mountain peak southwest of Morocco, in the Toubkal National Park, raising further funds for the Steve Prescott Foundation.
How high is Toubkal? At 4,167 metres (13,671 ft), it is the highest peak in the Atlas Mountains, Morocco, North Africa and the Arab World (source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toubkal (January 14, 2023).
If that is not enough, the team are hoping to play the first ever game of rugby league in the Sahara Desert.
Whilst the planning will be robust, the conditions will be tough, with extremes in temperature between night and day ranging from sub-zero to the high-30s.
Given these extremes and the arid conditions of the Sahara, the game of rugby league could prove as challenging as summiting Toubkal.
Over the coming weeks and months, the team will be put together and training plans formalised.
It is not unusual for the participants in these events to range from desk-bound office workers to retired professional athletes and they will all have their sponsorship commitments to meet.
